Edson Barboza pulled off an excellent win over Bobby Green last weekend at UFC Fight Night 58, putting forth one of his best career performances to score the unanimous decision win.
After the win, Barboza - who has done some training in New Jersey as of late - is interested in getting on the UFC on Fox 15 event coming to the Prudential Center in April. He's also hoping for the toughest challenges the UFC is willing to give him.
"That would be perfect," Barboza said of a date on the New Jersey card in an interview with MMAJunkie.com. "I start my training camp at American Top Team, but I finish in Jersey. I hope the UFC gives me the opportunity because I fought there three or four times, and I won all my fights in Jersey."
"I don't want to name names, but I want to fight guys in front of me. You said guys in front of me like 'Cowboy' [Cerrone] or Khabib [Nurmagomedov]; I don't know man. I want to fight with these guys, and I'm definitely ready for this. I hope the UFC gives me the opportunity... I hope I fight with the guys that are in front of me in the rankings, and I hope as soon as possible because, thank God, I'm 100 percent with no injuries. I'm ready for bigger challenges."
Penick's Analysis: Barboza has fallen short a couple of times in his UFC run, but he looked fantastic against Green, and if he continues to improve on that front, he'll be a challenge to any number of guys in the top end of the division. His chin remains an issue, because that's felled him in the past, but if he improves his defense and doesn't leave himself open to the types of shots he's taken in the past, he'll go much farther than he's gotten to date.
