The UFC is not giving John Lineker an immediate shot at the UFC Flyweight Championship, as the organization announced on Tuesday that they've re-booked the fight with Ian McCall that was supposed to happen at UFC Fight Night 56 earlier this month.
That originally scheduled matchup was canceled when McCall was forced out following the weigh-ins due to a blood infection, and now the two will clash at UFC 183 on Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas.
Each fighter is trying to establish themselves as the No. 1 contender in the flyweight division, hoping for a 2015 matchup with Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson.
McCall is trying to get his third fight with the Champ, having fought to a draw, then losing a decision to Johnson in the inaugural Flyweight Title tournament. He's since bounced back from the loss to Johnson and a subsequent decision loss to Joseph Benavidez with wins over Iliarde Santos and Brad Pickett.
The 24-year-old Lineker is attempting to establish himself as the next guy, but issues in making weight on several occasions in his UFC run have been a hindrance. Despite that, his exciting and violent performances have led to wins in five of his last six fights.
UFC 183 takes place on January 31 from Las Vegas, Nevada, headlined by the middleweight bout between Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz.
