20-year-old Paige VanZant was held out of The Ultimate Fighter 20 due to her age, but she was given an opportunity to debut in the UFC outright on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 57, and she made the most of it.

VanZant took out Kailin Curran in extremely exciting fashion, earning a "Fight of the Night" bonus for her efforts in scoring a third round TKO. After the bout, she said she's eying a fight with someone on the TUF 20 cast, particularly Tecia Torres, who is the only fighter to hold a win over her.

"I think I set a really great tone," VanZant said at the post-fight press conference (transcribed by MMAJunkie.com). "I definitely think I proved myself in this fight that I didn't need to be on The Ultimate Fighter to make a name for myself, and I'm really excited to fight whoever comes out of The Ultimate Fighter house as soon as possible. There's a lot of girls in that house that I'd match myself up with; one of the standout fighters was Tecia Torres. She's my only loss. So I'm excited to get that rematch with her, or whoever comes out of The Ultimate Fighter house, or the belt holder when that happens."

VanZat was emotional before and after the win on Saturday night, and said afterward that it all set in as she walked to the cage. However, that's when she feels she performs her best.

"Going into it, I always get nervous before I perform," VanZant said. "I didn't feel it through the fight camp; I didn't feel it on the way out here. Once I walk out to the cage, all the nerves set in, and I'm used to being under pressure. I perform really well under pressure. I mean, what a way to kick off my UFC career with a bonus. I'm still in shock."

Penick's Analysis: VanZant looked fantastic in her debut, and made a big impression with her relentlessness both in the clinch, off her back, and in top position during the fight. This women's strawweight division is bringing a lot of talent into the UFC, and VanZant is right in that conversation. People should be looking forward to her next appearance in the Octagon after this one.
