"It should be me, based on my performance, based on what I've done in my career, it should be me. I'm here to stay. I'm coming. I'm not going to be an easy fight for anybody, I guarantee that... I don't know if I'd be angry [if I didn't get the shot]. I'd be disappointed, but I wouldn't be a baby about it. What can I do? Just put my head down, go back in the gym and earn another shot. That's all I can do... I'd love to fight in Jersey [at the just announced UFC on Fox 15 card]. But everybody knows what I want; I want that title. If Conor [McGregor] wins his next fight, it's either me or him, I'm thinking. If it's not me, it's him, and I probably wouldn't fight him in Jersey. But yeah, I'm down."
-Frankie Edgar pleads his case for a title fight after his win over Cub Swanson at UFC Fight Night 57 (via MMAJunkie.com).
Penick's Analysis: Edgar's in a really unfortunate spot here. He absolutely deserves a rematch with Jose Aldo, and with that win over Swanson he's done a hell of a lot more than McGregor in this division. But he's just a couple of years removed from a loss to Jose Aldo, and the UFC is seemingly averse to putting him back into the title picture with how many rematches he's already had. It's not necessarily right or fair for them to think that way, but they seem intent on rushing McGregor into that fight. Edgar is the top contender regardless of who they actually put against Aldo next, and I think he's shown himself to be the biggest threat as well.
