UFC Bantamweight Champion T.J. Dillashaw underwent surgery this fall on his elbow, but he's healing up and in good spirits into 2015.
According to a report from Wednesday's latest episode of UFC Tonight, Dillashaw is targeting a return to the Octagon in February or March, where he's expected to fight former Champion Dominick Cruz.
Dillashaw defeated Joe Soto in August on 24 hours' notice in his last fight after Renan Barao was sent to the hospital in the midst of an unfortunately disastrous weight cut.
Cruz took out Takeya Mizugaki in highly impressive fashion in his last outing. He earned a fight for the title he never lost in the process, and he'll be ready by the time Dillashaw is ready to return.
Penick's analysis: Given what's already set up on the UFC's schedule, a March date seems probable for this fight. Dillashaw has looked great in his two title fights this year, and Cruz came back into the fold with a vengeance with his win over Mizugaki. This is going to be an excellent 135 lb. fight when it happens, and hopefully both are fully healthy and able to compete at their best in the fight.
