Cub Swanson's got to be hoping the UFC isn't just paying him lip service at this point, as he's been given assurances once again that a win over Frankie Edgar this Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 57 will earn him a shot at UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo.
UFC President Dana White confirmed as much on Monday on Fox Sports 1's "America's Pregame" program, saying the title shot is his if he wins.
That assurance comes as Conor McGregor continues to gain steam in the 145 lb. division, but White says it's Swanson's fight should he beat the former UFC Lightweight Champ in Austin, Texas.
Penick's Analysis: Swanson has said he won't believe it until he's signed a contract to fight Aldo, but this is as forthcoming as any answer's been regarding his status to date. He deserves the shot if he beats Edgar, and if he's healthy and can fight Aldo early in 2015, he should get the fight. McGregor can fight the winner if he beats Dennis Siver.
