Former UFC Heavyweight Champ Andrei Arlovski returned to the UFC in June after a six-year hiatus, defeating Brendan Schaub in a widely derided fight. However, his follow up stoppage of Bigfoot Silva last month catapulted him back into relevance in the UFC's heavyweight division.
While Arlovski was hoping to plug himself back into the mix as quick as possible, he's no longer thinking about his next fight, and will instead turning his attention to recovery.
According to a report from Ariel Helwani on Wednesday's UFC Tonight program on Fox Sports 1, Arlovski underwent shoulder surgery recently, which will keep him out of training for six to eight weeks. Because of that, he's not looking ahead to his next opponent, and is instead simply thinking about healing up to return stronger.
Penick's Analysis: It's an unfortunate setback for Arlovski, because this is a division primed for anyone to claim their spot up at the top. If Mark Hunt can fight for an Interim Title in 2014, Arlovski can absolutely work into title contention in 2015, so he definitely just needs to heal up from this injury and get back to the cage as quickly as he's able.
