While a fight between Alexander Gustafsson and Rashad Evans has been discussed for a January Fox card, Evans himself isn't quite ready to commit to that.
According to a report from Ariel Helwani on Wednesday's new UFC Tonight episode on Fox Sports 1, Evans hasn't yet agreed to the fight because he's not entirely sure if his knee will be ready by then.
Evans underwent surgery to repair his ACL earlier this year, and while he's been steadily recovering since then, he's not sure it's fully ready for a training camp to get him ready by January. Per the report, Evans wants to go hard in training for a week to see how it holds up before making any decisions.
Penick's Analysis: Evans has been out of action nearly a year already, and the longer he's delayed in returning the more the division continues to pass him by. However, if he's able to get back into the cage by January, a fight with Gustafsson affords him the opportunity to plug right back into the mix at 205 lbs..
