Conor McGregor got the fans in Brazil riled up this afternoon at a Q&A prior to the UFC 179 weigh-ins, taking a series of negative questions in stride while delivering plenty to get under the skin of those in the crowd.
Check out the video below, with some quotes picked out from the proceedings:
On fighting Dennis Siver next:"I am the No. 1 contender. The next time Jose Aldo steps into the Octagon, it will be against me. In the meantime, I took a fight against Dennis Siver to eliminate another contender. Simple as that.
"Dennis is an easy contest. I like to think of Dennis as a keep fresh, get rich fight. So I'm going to go in and put Dennis away, we're going to drag Jose Aldo back to Ireland, fill out an 80,000 seat football stadium, and I'm going take the belt home to Ireland."
On Jose Aldo: "He has not submitted or knocked out anybody in the past five years. How's he going to touch me? I will be too quick for him. I will be too powerful. I will put him away... No Brazilian will have a world title after I am done."
Penick's Analysis: That Q&A was the type of thing that elevates him even further. The way that crowd reacted to him is the other end of the spectrum from what the crowd in Ireland gave him, so the fact that he can hit both sides of such vehement reaction sets him up as a real superstar, at least in certain regions thus far. Now the next step is seeing that type of reaction turn into major business.
