Donald Cerrone is going to fall short of his desire to fight six times in 2014, but he's likely to get an early start to his 2015 slate.
According to a report from Ariel Helwani on Wednesday's new edition of UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1, Dana White says the UFC is targeting a bout between Cerrone and Myles Jury for an as of yet unannounced event on January 18, though it's not yet "100% confirmed."
Cerrone won four fights this year, most recently defeating Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 178. That was his fifth straight win overall, and the first in that stretch not to end in a stoppage for him.
Jury, meanwhile, picked up his sixth straight UFC win in September, knocking out Takanori Gomi to move his undefeated record to 15-0.
Penick's Analysis: The Jan. 18 date puts that event on a Sunday night, which would suggest a Fox Sports 1 card. The UFC has run some Sunday dates on occasion, so that's not entirely out of the ordinary, and depending on where the fight happens, this could be a solid headliner for an FS1 event.
