Paulo Thiago's time in the UFC has come to an end, as multiple published reports on Wednesday state he's been released by the UFC after his third straight loss.
He was signed to a new lengthy extension in the fall despite losses in six of his previous eight fights, but in his first bout on that deal he dropped a decision to Sean Spencer.
That was his eighth loss in 13 UFC appearances dating back to February of 2009, and his seventh loss after a 3-1 stretch kicked off his career in the organization. The Brazilian special forces officer in Brazil has only picked up two fairly dull decision wins over David Mitchell and Michel Prazeres in his last nine fights.
Penick's Analysis: This isn't surprising in the least, as it was odd he was re-signed this fall to begin with. The UFC gave him every opportunity to get back on track, but he wasn't able to follow up on his successes in 2009 and 2010 with anything meaningful over the last four years of his UFC run.
