UFC President Dana White met with Georges St-Pierre in Montreal last week, and in the latest edition of "The Download" on UFC.com, White revealed that St-Pierre's been officially cleared to return to training.
However, while St-Pierre is on his way back to the gym this week, there's still no timetable for him actually returning to MMA, if he does so at all. White said that they're not pushing to get him back, and believe they'll simply hear from him when he's ready to make a decision one way or another.
"They cleared GSP's knee," White said. "After surgery like that it still takes about another 30 days before you start to mentally feel right. But he's in a good spot."
"His knee just got cleared and he'll start training again and getting back into shape. He'll let us know when he's ready."
Penick's Analysis: Will he return? Won't he return? It's reasonable to continue wondering because it seems even he himself isn't sure. It's entirely possible that just getting back to the gym reignites something in him and spurs on a comeback. It's also possible that he finds there's no drive to compete any longer. He could still simply wait out the UFC's launch of a year-round drug testing program. There are a number of ways this could go, some of which mean he fights again, some of which mean he doesn't. Until he makes a decision, we can only wait and wonder.
