With Anthony "Rumble" Johnson taken out of the mix due to domestic violence allegations, Alexander Gustafsson is still going to take another fight, and now we may know exactly when.
According to a report from MMAMania.com, the UFC is targeting Gustafsson vs. Rashad Evans for an event on January 24 in Sweden, which they're also saying is tentatively planned for Fox.
Gustafsson's hoping to tread water with another win, expecting to keep himself in line for a title fight. In his last outing, he took out Jimi Manuwa, handing the English fighter his first career loss.
Evans hasn't fought since February of this year, as injuries took him out of action. He's hoping to return as well, and both have expressed interest in a fight against one another.
Penick's Analysis: The Jan. 24 date is in line with Fox events in previous years, and it would be interesting to see if the UFC would run the show during the day to allow a primetime event for the fans in Sweden. If they're going to put this fight in Sweden in the first place, having it on Fox rather than UFC Fight Pass or Fox Sports 1 would be preferable to get more eyes on the fight, because a Gustafsson win would set up the rematch with Jon Jones - or potentially a title fight with Daniel Cormier.
