UFC Bantamweight Champion T.J. Dillashaw underwent a minor surgical procedure on his elbow on Friday, according to a report from MMAFighting.com.
Per the report, Dillashaw's surgery was to address a case of bursitis, which is a swelling and irritation of the bursa sac in the elbow. Dillashaw says things went well on that front, and blamed the injury on elbowing his UFC 177 opponent Joe Soto too many times.
"Swollen from elbowing Soto," Dillashaw said regarding what led to the issue. "Drained it multiple times but just kept coming back."
Dillashaw is expected to fight Dominick Cruz fr the title when he's ready to return.
Penick's Analysis: This shouldn't sideline him for too long, so the fight with Cruz isn't likely to get delayed any longer than it would have been based on the schedule. It's likely they fight by February, though it could potentially be pushed to March unless the UFC puts it on the UFC 182 or UFC 183 event in January.
