While Conor McGregor plans to be in Brazil next week for UFC 179, potentially to face off with the winner of the Jose Aldo-Chad Mendes title fight, the Irish contender said on Wednesday he doesn't believe either of them will be ready to fight until the middle of next year. Because of that, he's eying another fight before then.
I am looking forward to going to Brazil this week to see the Number 1 contender fight between Aldo and Mendes. Who gets to face the KING?
Penick's Analysis: Now, could this be McGregor conceding the next shot to the Swanson-Edgar winner and taking another fight first while veiling it as a shot at Aldo and Mendes? Perhaps. Does he just actually believe neither will be ready soon enough? Also possible. Regardless, another fight may just be better for him, because while he could be plugged right into a title bout without any problem, the UFC has other options there, and can try to build him up further with another top 10 opponent. I suppose we'll have to see how they run it out after UFC 179.
