Mike Goldberg has issued an apology on Twitter for his reaction to critics on the social media site on Sunday. The reaction to his reaction has led to him being pulled from this coming Sunday's Vikings-Bills game on Fox, and Goldberg says it was a mutually agreed upon decision.

The problem with an apology like this is it lacks a certain level of sincerity given it's far from the first time he's responded in such a manner. As Brent Brookhouse at BloodyElbow.com posted in the wake of his response Sunday night, this has been a habitual response from Goldberg on Twitter in the past:

Penick's Analysis: Goldberg was conditioned to handle critics this way, because there was no blowback to him doing so from the UFC. Given it's precisely how Dana White handles reaction to critics on Twitter, it's a trickle down situation to other members of the organization, and Goldberg's got a history of responding this way. So this isn't just a "momentary lapse of judgment." It's a byproduct of the UFC's historical response leaking into a different level of scrutiny because of the Fox/NFL affiliation. Goldberg's not sorry he responded like he did, he's sorry that in doing so he brought further negative attention to himself and Fox, costing him the next opportunity he had set up to be on an NFL broadcast. If the comments had been after just another UFC pay-per-view, it would have slid relatively unnoticed as usual.
