Top UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov tore his meniscus this summer, sidelining him for a considerable time and taking him out of a fight with Donald Cerrone at UFC 178. That fight might have earned him a shot at the UFC Lightweight Championship, but he'll have to get back into the mix when he returns next year.
At least now he's got a return timetable.
Nurmagomedov posted a picture to Twitter on Tuesday night, and said doctors tell him he can return by March.
Penick's Analysis: Nurmagomedov's going to need to win a fight when he comes back, and then he can fight for the title in the summer/fall. He's on the cusp of that shot, but the injury delay definitely puts a kink in those plans. Still, it's good to see he's got a set date for his return, as he can quickly get back into the thick of things once he gets back into the cage.
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
