Conor McGregor stopped Dustin Poirier on Saturday in a fight that solidified his status as a legitimate top contender in the featherweight division. He continues to egg on the rest of the field, so after the fight on Saturday, the division's next contender, Chad Mendes, had something to say.

In a quick text sent to MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani, Mendes said the following:

"Conor can get on a plane to Brazil, go to his 3rd row seat, grab a bowl of lucky charms and witness excellence."

That was then relayed to McGregor during a media scrum after the press conference, which brought out a response from the never shy Irish featherweight.

"[Mendes] is a little shortass. A little shortass," McGregor said ( Whatever, we'll see how the fight goes. We'll be there and we'll see what he says when we're face to face, man to man. We won't be eye to eye, though. We'll be bellybutton to eye. I'd say something else but I won't go there."

Penick's Analysis: McGregor very well may get that next title fight despite others in the division having a more established argument, but with what he did to Poirier last night he's got everyone's attention. If Mendes beats Aldo for the title, a McGregor-Mendes fight could be very easy to put together, though McGregor challenging Aldo if Aldo gets another win could also be big for the UFC. Either way, they may have plenty of reason to go all in with McGregor into a title fight in his next outing.
