Raphael Assuncao's going to have to wait a bit longer for that title shot, even if he destroys Bryan Caraway next week at UFC Fight Night 54.
Dominick Cruz will get a chance to regain the title he never lost in his next outing, as UFC President Dana White said after UFC 178 that he'll get the next fight with T.J. Dillashaw.
Cruz was forced to give the title up earlier this year when yet another injury further extended his already more than two year layoff. He finally returned on Saturday, and needed just one minute to stop a man who hadn't been stopped by strikes in nearly eight years.
The thrilling and somewhat unexpected blitzkrieg Cruz brought to the cage on Saturday was more than enough to jump back to the top of the line.
Penick's Analysis: For as much as Assuncao deserves his shot, Cruz getting that fight is the right move. He looked incredible last night, and considering he never lost the title to begin with, he deserves a chance to get it back. Assuncao just needs to keep himself busy, keep winning fights, and that shot could come early next year.
