Daniel Cormier received his punishment from the Nevada Athletic Commission this afternoon for his part in the brawl with Jon Jones at a UFC 178 media day in Las Vegas last month.
Cormier was given a fine of $9,000, and he received 20 hours of community service in his own hometown, as commissioner Pat Lundvall believed he wasn't as culpable in the incident as Jones.
The lesser fine remained consistent with what was given to Jones, as it represented 10% of the purse he'll receive for their bout at UFC 182, just as Jones' $50,000 fine represents 10% of the $500,000 base purse he'll receive for the event.
All other conditions remain the same for the community service outside of the location and amount of hours.
Penick's Analysis: Cormier argued self defense, putting more on Jones' actions in the brawl. At least one commissioner was swayed, and thus his community service is going to be a bit easier for him. He gets to stay in his hometown, and has half the hours to commit to on top of that.
