Since his loss to Fabricio Werdum in April, Travis Browne has decided to switch camps, leaving Jackson-Winkeljohn in Albuquerque to work with Edmond Tarverdyan and Ronda Rousey.
His UFC 181 opponent, Brendan Schaub, seems pleased with the switch, as he thinks it's going to go poorly for Browne, making the fight easier for him on Dec. 6.
"It can be good," Schaub said of switching things up in general on the latest Joe Rogan Experience podcast (transcribed by MMAFighting.com). "Listen, I came to [Los Angeles] and switched things up. Obviously, I know Ronda very well and I know that camp pretty well. I'm not going to go into detail but I think it's a great thing for me that he's training there. I'll put it like that. I think it's a good thing for me."
He wouldn't expand on those thoughts any further, but said it's not something he'll be worrying about much over the next few months.
"I don't give a f***," he said. "I'm not worried about him. I'm worried about me."
Penick's Analysis: Is he hinting at perhaps getting inside info because of his connection to Rousey's team? Or, because he knows them there, does he think the training isn't going to be adequate for Browne? Who knows, but clearly he thinks it's something that gives him an edge. Given how poor he looked against Andrei Arlovski, perhaps that's something he needs.
