UFC President Dana White has said Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza may need to fight again before getting a fight for the UFC Middleweight Championship, but at this point an injury to Souza may work out in his favor.
Souza has been indefinitely suspended due to a right hand injury suffered in his win over Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 50, and though he'll eventually be cleared, the fact that he's on the sidelines right now could keep him on ice long enough to get him that title fight early next year.
In addition to Souza, Ben Rothwell, John Moraga, Al Iaquinta, and Chas Skelly received indefinite suspensions as well out of the event. The full list of suspensions is below (via MMAJunkie.com):
- Ronaldo Souza: Suspended indefinitely, requires orthopedic clearance of right hand
- Ben Rothwell: Suspended indefinitely, requires orthopedic clearance of right forearm
- Derrick Lewis: Suspended minimum of 60 days and requires new CT scan and neurological clearance
- Michael Chiesa: Suspended 60 days for laceration
- Charles Oliveira: Suspended minimum of 30 days and requires primary care clearance with explanation of treatment
- John Moraga: Suspended indefinitely, requires orthopedic clearance of left elbow
- Al Iaquinta: Suspended indefinitely, requires orthopedic clearance of right knee and right hip
- Rodrigo Damm: Suspended minimum of 60 days and requires neurological clearance
- Tateki Matsuda: Suspended 30 days for laceration
- Chris Beal: Suspended minimum of 60 days and requires orthopedic clearance of facial bones
- Chas Skelly: Suspended indefinitely, requires orthopedic clearance of right hand and foot
