Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir hasn't fought since a decision loss to Alistair Overeem in February, and he's not entirely sure when or if he'll return to the Octagon.
It's been nearly three years since Mir last won a fight, and the 35-year-old said this week in an interview with MMAFightCorner.com that he simply hasn't come to a decision yet on the future of his career.
"I really don't know," Mir said of when or if he would return. "I'm kind of just taking time off and weighing that out. That's a decision that me and my family are still trying to - we haven't come to a conclusive idea yet."
Mir's last win came in his rematch with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, where he broke the heavyweight legend's arm with a kimura in December of 2011. Since then, he lost a title fight to Junior dos Santos, dropped a decision to Daniel Cormier, got stopped by Josh Mir, and lost the aforementioned decision to Overeem.
Penick's Analysis: Given the status of the heavyweight division in the UFC, Mir remains a top 15 fighter despite those four losses. Granted, each of them in that stretch came against fellow top 15 competitors, one of whom was the Champion at the time, another who is challenging for the Light Heavyweight Championship, and two other longtime heavyweight vets. If he wants to return, he'll return, and if he doesn't, he's had a long and fairly decorated career for this sport.
