"Silva has done great things for the sport, to move the sport forward. If he wants to retire, he's done well for himself. He’s made good money for his kids and his future. But if wants to come back, I think he always gives a good show. But he could hang up the gloves right now and he would be well loved... I think his reputation is going to stay intact. He's done a lot for the sport, and throughout his career, he's moved the sport forward and he will always be remembered as a great champion."
-Fabricio Werdum talks to MMAJunkie.com about Wanderlei Silva and the legacy he thinks "The Axe Murderer" will have despite his current issues with the Nevada Athletic Commission.
Penick's Analysis: Given Silva's rise to prominence came in PRIDE, where they actively did not test for steroids, his current predicament absolutely leaves a mark. There's more than enough reason to question his entire career at this point. Obviously there's a large segment of the fanbase who may hold him in high regard no matter what happens, strictly through nostalgia for what his highlights meant to them in the past. But the way the last year has played out for him has been a real negative cap to his UFC run to date.
