Dana White and Nate Diaz are on the path to mending fences after some negative back and forth this summer. White said on Saturday the patch-up began earlier this month following the end of TUF 20 filming in Las Vegas, and though they remain far apart as far as terms are concerned, they've found some ground from which to start.

"I took everybody out for the TUF 20 finale," White said in a media scrum after Saturday's UFC Fight Night 48 event in China (via MMAFighting.com). "It was a very, very, very rough night. A lot of damage was done that night. But Nate and I got together that night and talked, and we're going to get together when I get back into the country."

"[By damage, I mean] brain cells," he continued, when asked to clarify. "Physically it was a pretty crazy night. Crazy fun night. But Nate and I got to spend some quality time together."

"We'll see what happens. You know, we were out having fun, we talked business for a little while. We got together in a room, and where he is and where we are, we're not even close. But I've said it before and I'll say it again, I've always liked Nate Diaz, I've always had a great relationship with Nate Diaz. It's not like I don't like the kid and he's hard to deal with. He's just got something in his head and we've got something else in our head."

Penick's Analysis: They're surely going to get him back in the cage eventually, because Diaz isn't going to make any money at all in the sport if he doesn't come back to fight. He needs to pick up a win if he wants to command more money from the UFC, because he's just not in a position to renegotiate, as has been said on a number of occasions. Of course, if they talk further, the UFC could be willing to give a minor pay bump for now, to consider something more significant after he wins another fight or two. We'll see soon enough, I suppose.
