Ronda Rousey's two wins in 2014 were the two fastest wins in UFC women's division history, and are both in the top ten times for a title finish ever in the UFC as well.
It turns out, Rousey cost herself a little money with her most recent win, as her 16 second win over Alexis Davis wound up meaning a lost bet with one of her coaches.
Rousey explained at a recent fan Q&A that after beating Sara McMann at UFC 174, she bet her coach that no one would break the mark she set by winning in just over a minute. Then, she went and beat the mark herself.
"A funny thing about that. After I beat McMann in 1:06, my coach and I had a bet," she said (transcribed by BJPenn.com). "He was like, 'No one is ever going to beat a minute and six second knockout in women's (MMA).' And I was like, 'Yeah, somebody is.' I told him somebody will beat it and then we had a bet going for a couple thousand dollars. Then I beat it. No, wait, I said that nobody could beat it, that was it. So I ended up beating it myself and I didn't know that I counted. So I actually owe my coach like five grand right now. I don't know if I would make that bet again, but yeah, you know what, I'll say it again. No one will ever beat 16 seconds, including myself. If I do, or somebody else does, then I owe my coach another five grand."
Penick's Analysis: Considering only one other title fight in UFC history ended quicker than her win over Davis, I highly doubt the 16 second record will be broken. That said, with how far ahead of the competition Rousey has been, it's impossible to put it past her to take out another fighter as quickly as she did Davis.
