It looks like Paige VanZant will not be making her UFC debut in October as planned. After Urijah Faber commented this past month that she hadn't been around the Team Alpha Male gym in Sacramento, and thus wouldn't be repping the team in her scheduled fight on Oct. 4 at UFC Fight Night 54, VanZant has now come out explaining why she's been gone: injury.
In a post made on both Facebook and Instagram, the 20-year-old VanZant revealed that she's been in physical therapy for a spine injury, and hasn't been cleared to train.
For those who can't see the embedded Instagram post, VanZant says the following:
Dear fans I know quite a few of you are wondering why I am not in my training camp. I left Sacramento to come back to my home state and have been in intense physical therapy from a spine injury. I do not have insurance coverage in California and I have not been [given] the okay to train at this time. I am working hard to get better. Prayers up for a good recovery. Thank you so much for all your kind words it is such a blessing to have such an amazing team behind me.
She doesn't explicitly say she's out of her scheduled fight with Kailin Curran, but as the fight is just a month and a half away and she hasn't been cleared to train, it seems unlikely she'll be going through with the fight.
