Some changes could be coming to the UFC canvas following complaints from a number of fighters recently. The surface has been giving some a "sandy" feel, with Sara McMann on Saturday night the most recent to comment on it after her win over Lauren Murphy.
UFC President Dana White responded to the complaints, which he says were also an issue on the just completed Ultimate Fighter 20.
"We've been working on it forever," White said after the event (transcribed by MMAJunkie.com). "We've literally been working on that forever."
"The sandy stuff is that spray that we spray on there that makes it sticky. It does, it gets all sandy. It just happened to all the girls on 'The Ultimate Fighter.' We are actually looking at a couple of different options for that right now too. We're trying some new things."
Penick's Analysis: Canvases for MMA are not all equal, and it's been a work in progress from the beginning. Some promotions use one that's too slippery, some one that's too loose, some one that gets too hot under lights, etc. Now the UFC has got an issue with what they're doing currently, and they'll make adjustments to it which may eventually need adjusting as well.
