UFC Champ Ronda Rousey got the VIP treatment from the WWE on Sunday at Summerslam in Los Angeles, taking part in some photo shoots backstage and getting on camera during the broadcast, and she even spoke with WWE.com for a brief interview about her pro wrestling fandom.
"I'm a huge fan and this is the one day of the year I happen to be able to go walk around and meet people. [I've been a fan] ever since I was a little kid, but more so within the last year or so. It's become our house activity to sit down and watch wrestling. It's been such a crazy year with all the fights and the movies. It's really rare for us all to have time to go do something together."
Rousey said she was there to see rising star Roman Reigns, but of course with former UFC Champ Brock Lesnar in the main event, Rousey was asked for her thoughts on the man.
"I think it's extremely difficult to be able to manage two careers the way that he has. To come up from professional wrestling, then be successful in MMA, then be able to go back to wrestling — I mean, that's a very difficult thing to not just make one transition, but to make more than one. He has all my respect as an entertainer and an athlete."
As for Rousey making the jump to pro wrestling herself, well, don't count it out.
"You never know," she said. "I have a lot of crazy opportunities on my plate right now. I'm going to try to do as many as possible at the right time or at the best time. Tonight, I'm just here as a fan."
Penick's Analysis: Some judo styling in a pro wrestling ring could be interesting, but I'm not sure that's something we'll see. It really depends on where Rousey goes in her film career, and how long she wants to continue fighting as well. She's still young, and she's fond of testing herself in different arenas, so if the time came that it would make sense for her to try something like pro wrestling, I wouldn't put it past her to go for it. That said, it's not necessarily all that likely.
