Ovince St. Preux failed to take another step up the ladder in his career on Saturday night, dropping a decision to Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 47 in a highly uninspired performance.
St. Preux allowed Bader to dictate the pace for much of the fight, and in the first, third, and fourth rounds, Bader hit several takedowns and wore the younger competitor down.
The underdog just never kicked his game into gear, and while Bader wasn't doing a ton offensively, the relentless takedowns and top control were more than enough to win him a majority of the fight. His only real slips in the fight came in the second round where he essentially didn't do anything, and then a few moments in the final round where St. Preux did some damage with elbows while stuffing a takedown attempt.
Outside of that, Bader did plenty with his wrestling, scoring nine takedowns through the course of the fight, which moves him into second place in UFC light heavyweight history with 39 takedowns. That trails only Rashad Evans, who has scored 50 takedowns in his UFC career.
Bader keeps himself in the mix in the top ten, but the less than thrilling victory won't bring him near the title picture anytime soon. As for St. Preux, the loss keeps him in the middle of the pack.
