After a close but clear decision win over Lyoto Machida at UFC 175, Middleweight Champ Chris Weidman will defend his title once again at UFC 181 in December when he takes on Vitor Belfort.
Entering the bout, Weidman's holding a healthy respect for the physical abilities of his challenger, but he's gunning for a decisive victory, and said this week he won't be satisfied with anything less.
"I respect him as a fighter," Weidman said this week in New York (via Newsday). "I'm going in there ready for an absolute war and ready for the best Vitor we've ever seen. I can't afford to have any lack of respect when it comes to fighting. That being said, I'm going in there to get a finish. If I don't get a finish, I'd be real disappointed."
Penick's Analysis: It's going to be a difficult fight for Weidman, even if Belfort is hampered while no longer on TRT into that fight. Still, Weidman's got the ability to stop Belfort, and if anyone in the division is going to pull it off, he may certainly be the one to do so. It's going to be a big title fight on Dec. 6, but he's putting it out there now that he's not going to be satisfied with anything but a finish.
