A light heavyweight bout between Glover Teixeira and Phil Davis is in the works for later this year, according to a report from Combate in Brazil.
No date or location for the bout has yet been set, but it would be a good fit in a number of spots, not the least of which would be UFC 179 in Brazil in October.
Teixeira will hope to get back on track after suffering a loss to Jon Jones in April at UFC 172. That snapped a nine year winning streak spanning 20 fights.
As for Davis, a loss to Anthony "Rumble" Johnson on that same UFC 172 card halted his rise up the division, sending him down the ladder at 205 lbs.
Penick's Analysis: This is a sensible fight for each of them, but it does take Teixeira out of the mix for Rumble's next fight. Regardless, Teixeira-Davis gives each an opportunity to keep themselves immediately relevant in the light heavyweight division. The loser will be in bad shape, of course, but that's how the UFC best progresses guys off a loss.
