Joanna Jedrzejczyk made a very good impression in her UFC debut on Saturday afternoon, defeating Juliana Lima in a one-sided decision at UFC on Fox 12.
The longtime Muay Thai competitor showed off a polished striking game, putting together fantastic combinations that had Lima on the ropes for much of the fight. Though there didn't seem to be tons of stopping power behind her attacks, the varied nature and accuracy of her approach were highly effective, and it made for a very good debut in the UFC's new strawweight division.
Jedrzejczyk had a little added motivation to put that type of attack on Lima because of the weigh-ins, where Lima missed weight and the two got into a heated face off. After the fight, Jedrzejczyk gave a very matter of fact statement with her thoughts on that.
"She wasn't nice at the weigh-ins, but now she got beat up," Jedrzejczyk said (via MMAJunkie.com). "I think she'll think about that."
Penick's Analysis: This is such a beautifully simplistic statement. Jedrzejczyk comes off a bit as a stoic, Polish badass, and that's what she presented in the cage on Saturday. This women's strawweight division is going to be good, and it's been intriguing to see Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha getting a head start on the women coming via TUF 20.
