Anthony "Rumble" Johnson's resurgent run as a light heavyweight took another big step on Saturday night, as he destroyed Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in just 44 seconds at UFC on Fox 12.
Johnson backed the veteran Nogueira up immediately, and hurt him with an early strike. From there, he pressed him to the cage with strikes, and unleashed an massive barrage that included three uppercuts connecting to send Nogueira to the ground.
The fight was mercifully stopped, and the beating solidified Johnson as a top 205 lb. contender. He's now won eight straight fights, and has knocked off two top ten fighters in a row. As for Nogueira, the 38-year-old suffers his first stoppage loss in over seven years.
Johnson's now looking ahead at a potential No. 1 contender's fight in the division, though the list of potential opponents isn't all that long right now. Regardless, another win could have him in line for a title fight at light heavyweight.
