UFC Women's Champion Ronda Rousey knows full well how she's perceived by the masses, and she also embraces it. It's made clear as soon as she enters an arena, as Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" blares on the loud speakers.
She's been utilizing that music since her Strikeforce days, and it's become a fitting signature of hers on fight night.
Jett herself was asked about Rousey's use of the song this week during a red carpet appearance prior to the Alternative Press Music Awards on AXS TV, with none other than now-former WWE star CM Punk presenting the question (via MiddleEasy.com).
Here's the exchange:
Punk: "UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey uses a song of yours as she walks to the cage. Completely fitting if you know Ronda, the song, it is her in a nutshell. If you knew about that, awesome, just tell me what you think about that."
Jett: "Again, I'm really amazed when people utilize our music to represent them, and something that they do. So I thought it was so great that she walks out, I think it's to Bad Reputation."
Punk: "Absolutely. Some say she has a bad reputation, and trust me, she don't give a shit what people say, and I think that's awesome."
Penick's Analysis: While it was unlikely to bother Jett that the song was being used, the explicit support and positivity behind Rousey using that particular song is pretty cool. Clearly it's a fitting walkout song, and it sets the stage for each of her fights perfectly.
