Top lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov will be out of action until January at the earliest after suffering a knee injury last week.
According to a report from MMAFighting.com, Nurmagomedov suffered a torn meniscus on his right knee, and he'll undergo surgery to repair the damage.
Nurmagomedov's injury came during his first training session after signing a bout agreement for UFC 178 to take on Donald Cerrone. The undefeated fighter will try to plug back into the 155 lb. mix when he returns in 2015.
Penick's Analysis: Thankfully it wasn't a fully torn ACL or something more severe than the meniscus, because he'll be back in around six months as opposed to a year. When he does get back, he'll have to pick up a win or two to push back into the mix, but hopefully the right fights open up for him in early 2015.
