With their second action-packed and mostly entertaining event in the last four days, the UFC once again had plenty of options for their post-fight bonuses at UFC Fight Night 46.
The Dublin, Ireland, event sent fans home happy, with the Irish competitors on the card all winning their fights. The crowd came unglued during the main event, as Conor McGregor took out Diego Brandao in the first round. The TKO win earned him a $50,000 "Performance of the Night" bonus, but somehow his teammate Patrick Holohan was beaten out for the second by Gunnar Nelson.
Holohan got the event off to a hot start with a knockdown and an excellent rear naked choke win over Josh Sampo. Nelson had a fantastic finishing sequence to get his own RNC win over Zak Cummings, but the nine minutes of the fight that preceded it were quite dull and lacked in action in comparison to Holohan's victory. Nevertheless, it was Iceland's Nelson taking the other "Performance of the Night" award.
For the "Fight of the Night," a sloppy, crazy, violent fight between TUF 19 competitors Cathal Pendred and Mike King took the honors. It wasn't so much a good fight as it was ridiculous action, and it was Pendred's toughness that won out. King gassed after a first round in which he nearly stopped the fight several times, beating up Pendred on the ground and nearly catching him in a couple of submissions. Pendred survived, then took control in the second, and when he locked on a rear naked choke, he caught it tight, and King quickly went unconscious.
You can catch a replay of both the preliminary card and main card now if you missed the event live at UFC Fight Pass.
