A late training injury to Vagner Rocha has officially delayed Joe Ellenberger's UFC debut, as their bout has been scratched from the UFC 172 card this Saturday night.
The UFC announced the late scratch on Wednesday night, citing a minor injury to Rocha suffered in Baltimore this week as he tried to get some last minute prep in for the bout.
Rocha agreed to the bout on short notice when the card got shuffled up a bit last week. It began with an injury to Bobby Green, which took Ellenberger's first scheduled opponent Yancy Medeiros up the card to fight Jim Miller. Rocha then stepped in.
UFC 172 will move forward with ten fights in Baltimore, Maryland, on Saturday, while Ellenberger's debut gets pushed back.
Penick's Analysis: Perhaps the UFC can find Joe a spot on the UFC 173 card, where his twin brother Jake was rescheduled when Tarec Saffiedine got hurt. Jake is now fighting Robbie Lawler, and I'm sure the two brothers would like the opportunity again to fight on the same night.
