Wanderlei Silva's latest comments on Chael Sonnen go straight to what he feels is the biggest issue between them, as he came out calling Sonnen a racist on Monday.
In a post on Instagram, Silva tried to rally support of his fans and to partially explain why he continues to be as heated as he's been against Sonnen.
"This guy is a racist and he doesn't deserve our respect," Silva wrote (translated via Google Translate). "I wouldn't be mad [at him] if I had no reasons to be. Now, if you want to cheer for him be my guest, you deserve my respect. I don't agree with him and I think we should be united this time. We're stronger together."
The two fighters are scheduled to to fight at UFC 175 in Las Vegas this July.
Penick's Analysis: Chael Sonnen's not a racist. He's a xenophobe; there's a slight difference. That said, the comments about Brazil were what started this whole thing, and Silva hasn't let them go. That doesn't make his actions any more acceptable throughout this entire endeavor, but at this point neither of them are really sympathetic into their fight in July.
