"If I have to sacrifice that to be able to compete, I can do that. I still feel very confident I'll be able to compete without it. I don't know how many years that I wasn't using it at all, you know, and probably needed it before I got diagnosed and started using it... You know, I've always for the last few years, been vocal about trying to get some sort of random drug testing. That would have been the biggest and best thing to do for the sport, to clean up the sport and get rid of all the performance-enhancing drugs, is to have random, no advance notice drug testing. Once again, I mean, it's just a matter of a little more money, but I think that they would gain so much in credibility if they started implementing that, and I would love for that to happen."
-Dan Henderson talked to MMAJunkie.com earlier this week about stopping his TRT regimen to continue fighting and hoping to see random drug testing implemented.
Penick's Analysis: Random drug testing on a widespread basis is absolutely the next step after the banning of TRT. Random testing with blood tests and more extensive methods to come closer to what other sports are doing is a necessary step, and the only way they'll actually do something about the rampant drug use in the sport. Henderson's right to call for more increased testing, and the UFC will hopefully follow through on what Lorenzo Fertitta has promised sooner rather than later.
