Gina Carano will not be the next opponent for UFC Champ Ronda Rousey this summer, but that doesn't mean Carano to the UFC is a dead idea.
UFC President Dana White said on Wednesday during a media scrum following "The Ultimate Fighter: Nations" Finale that talks went well with Carano, and we could still see her competing in the UFC in the future.
"It went good. She wants to fight," White said of their conversation (via FoxSports.com). "We don't have a deal but she wants to fight."
"Let's see if we come to a deal, and then we'll talk about Gina."
Carano hasn't fought since August of 2009, where she was stopped by Cris Cyborg in their heavily hyped main event bout in Strikeforce on Showtime. She's transitioned to Hollywood in the time since, appearing in several film roles.
Penick's Analysis: If they were to bring her in, doing so in a non-title fight is absolutely the way to go about it. Having been out of the cage for five years means she simply shouldn't be in there with the best of the best from the outset, and given she's never fought in Rousey's current weight class, there's no guaranteeing she'd have made that weight to begin with. Now, who would she fight? What weight would it be at? How soon could it be? These are all questions that will be answered if and when they set up a deal.
