Clay Guida defeated Tatsuya Kawajiri on Friday at UFC Fight Night 39 in Abu Dhabi, and subsequently became the latest fighter to call out Ireland's Conor McGregor.
The outspoken McGregor has successfully gotten the attention of a large number of fighters in the UFC's 145 lb. field. He's already likely to have a fight lined up with Cole Miller in Ireland this July, but Guida thinks he'd simply be a big challenge for a fighter the UFC seems intent to push to the moon.
"You know, he doesn't really rub me the wrong way," Guida said (transcribed by BloodyElbow.com). "I believe he's got all the talents, but we haven't seen him tested yet. It's good to see up-and-comers get a lot of publicity like him. But I think maybe the fact that him and my good friend and teammate Cub Swanson had a little beef one night at a show, the fact that they're keeping him in close quarters and keeping an eye on him, by fighting in his own country. Let's see what he's made of. It doesn't have to be his next fight, but let's let him get a little momentum and put him in there against a guy that's got some experience, and we'll see what he's made of."
"Five rounds is my thing. If you want to see that guy cry, put him in there with me for five rounds."
PENICK'S ANALYSIS: Guida's the type of guy who would be a major challenge for McGregor, but I don't know that the UFC is interested in booking that matchup. They're going to pull him along once he gets back, starting with the Miller fight, but though Guida isn't going to do a ton of damage to him, he'll be the type of difficult grappling challenge that could slip McGregor up.
