Scott Jorgensen is appealing his UFC Fight Night 38 loss to Jussier Formiga with Brazil's athletic commission, CABMMA, on the grounds that an illegal headbutt from Formiga ultimately led to the finish.
The headbutt sent Jorgensen down to the mat, and by the time he regained his bearings, Formiga was already on top of him, where he eventually locked in a rear naked choke/neck crank combination for the win. Jorgensen was quite unhappy with the fight after the fact, and gave his thoughts on Facebook.
"Let me clarify I don't want a gimme win because the headbutt," he wrote. "Intentional or accidental it's a foul no diff than a nut shot. All I want rematch and at the time a damn minute to hecover. Not getting hit on my feet and stuffin 3 takedowns. I liked my fucking chances. Now have at it trolls and keyboard warriors say I'm complaining and crying. Meanwhile ur sitting there 'watching' like a champ. 8 losses on my record and ain't bitching bout one all I want is a fair chance."
"So if [you] f***in think the headbutt didn't change the fight, Jose Aldo Formiga's teammate, comes up and says [he's] sorry the headbutt won him the fight. F***ing shit."
Now, his management at MMA, Inc., says the appeal has been filed with CABMMA.
@LarryPepe Appeal was e-mailed to CBMMA today. Unified Rule 15 is pretty clear. Head butt is a foul. Ref "shall" stop action up to 5 min.
Penick's Analysis: Jorgensen definitely has a leg to stand on with this appeal. The California State Athletic Commission overturned Robbie Peralta's win over Mackens Semerzier on the basis of an uncalled headbutt, and it's clear given the replay that the driving force of the headbutt did the most damage to Jorgensen here. Now, Formiga did the work on the ground from there, but the knockdown and damage happened because of that headbutt, putting him at a serious disadvantage the rest of the way.
