Jussier Formiga defeated Scott Jorgensen on Sunday at UFC Fight Night 38 with a nasty rear naked choke/neck crank combination submission, forcing the tap in the first round. However, the win wasn't without controversy, as a hard headbutt sent Jorgensen to the ground in the first place.

That's not the way Formiga remembers it, though.

"I don't think it was a headbutt," Formiga said after the event (via MMAJunkie.com). "I think it was like a counter blow."

"I think when I came in, I did some movement, but it wasn't like head-to-head. It was my head against his chest, and he ended up falling on his back. Then I took the opportunity and went to his back. Everything worked out, and I was able to submit him."

The problem with his recollection is it doesn't hold up with what happened. Replays right after the fight showed that he popped in head first into Jorgensen's jaw, which sent Jorgensen to the ground. Regardless, Formiga picked up the much needed victory, and is looking forward to moving up in the UFC's flyweight division.

"I felt like it was like mission accomplished," Formiga said. "People that I knew asked me if it would be too much pressure to be fighting in my hometown. But I always saw it not as pressure but as a reason to put on a good show. Thankfully, I was able to perform my work and come out with a win."

"Currently I'm No. 7 in the UFC. I don't think about the belt now, but I'm thinking about moving up and just keep evolving in my weight division."

Penick's Analysis: Formiga's memory of the knockdown is flat out wrong given we saw the video evidence of the headbutt on Sunday's broadcast. It's certainly unfortunate for Jorgensen to have had that be what sent him down in the first place, but Formiga did what he needed to do in order to capitalize from there.
