The UFC will make their long-awaited return to Ireland this July. UFC executive Garry Cook revealed to the UK's TalkSPORT on Thursday that they're bringing a Fight Night card to Dublin on July 19, their first event in the country since January of 2009.
The event is part of the UFC's tour through Europe and the Middle East this year, following this weekend's London card, April's Abu Dhabi event, and the just-announced May 31 card in Germany.
Though the UFC won't announce any fights for the event until later on, it's likely that featherweight Conor McGregor will make his return on this card. That's just what MMA freelance writer Callum Leslie has reported on Twitter, citing sources close to the UFC in saying that McGregor will likely be headlining this card.
According to a source close to the UFC, officials are working on Conor McGregor vs Cole Miller as the main event for Dublin on July 19.
In addition to the Ireland event, Cook revealed that the UFC will return to London next March around the same time as this coming weekend's event, and that they're targeting Glasgow, Scotland for an event in 2015.
Penick's Analysis: McGregor has already been pushed to the moon by the UFC whether its deserved or not, and he certainly had some buzz about him from his time in Cage Warriors. And given the call out he received from Cole Miller and the back and forth they've had, having a little grudge match in McGregor's home country seems like a solid choice if that's the route they go.
