"I did have a feeling I wasn't fighting him the whole time. There was a lot that still had to go on. He had to go and get licensed in Nevada. I just had a weird feeling... I don't like [that Belfort was allowed to fight on TRT]. I'm not to judge. He won those fights. It was legal. But it looks fishy. I feel bad for those guys... There are people cheating in all sports. There's always gonna be cheaters. Any time that cheating is allowed pretty much, like TRT, I don't like it."
-UFC Champ Chris Weidman talks to FoxSports.com with his reaction to Vitor Belfort being pulled from their scheduled UFC 173 matchup.
Penick's Analysis: Now, the Nevada Commission straight up banning TRT caught everyone off guard. That said, there were serious issues with Belfort being granted a therapeutic use exemption in the first place because of his failed test in the past. The Brazilian commission granted him the exemption despite Nevada's then executive director Keith Kizer saying it was unlikely he'd have been granted one in Nevada. Because of all that, Belfort was facing an uphill battle to begin with, and ultimately he didn't wind up getting the fight at this time. He's going to still be in line for the winner of Weidman-Lyoto Machida now, but he'll likely still face some added scrutiny given he'll be getting off TRT now moving forward.
