Rashad Evans hasn't yet undergone surgery this week, but it's coming, and his camp updated his status in a post on Tuesday.
Via the Blackzilians' official site, Evans' camp is expecting him to be out of "active training" for six months after he undergoes surgery to repair a knee injury suffered last week. That injury took him out of his co-main event bout with Daniel Cormier this weekend at UFC 170.
Evans will have the knee repaired this week by Dr. Kvitne in Los Angeles, California.
"I am deeply disappointed to be missing the action at UFC 170, but I am, as always, incredibly grateful for the support of my family, friends, management, the UFC, and most of all my fans during this minor setback," Evans said in a short statement. "Thank you for your continued messages of support. I'll be back stronger than ever!"
Penick's Analysis: Six months is about as expected for a severe knee injury. It's unfortunate, still, but getting the injury fixed as quickly as possible is a positive. The time out is going to be unfortunate, but if he is diligent in his rehab and recovery, hopefully he can get back to action as close to his best as possible later this year.
