The UFC's initial plans for their April pay-per-view event, UFC 172, were to bring it to Mexico City with a fight between Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum. However, the UFC Heavyweight Champion will not be able to return until late in the year after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum.
The April card now has a main event, and a host city, though a date hasn't been officially announced.
The UFC Light Heavyweight Championship fight between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira was moved once again to the April card, and Jones' brother Art let the news out on Twitter that the event is coming to his current working home in Baltimore, Maryland.
So excited to hear my brothers next UFC fight is in Baltimore!!!! Let's goo #April26
The Champ further confirmed the location of the event, though said he wasn't sure exactly what date the event will fall on, despite the hashtag in his brother's Tweet, in comments made to Ariel Helwani.
This card will mark the UFC's first ever event in Baltimore or the state of Maryland.
Penick's Analysis: Moving Jones back a bit makes more sense now with this location. Having Johny Hendricks close to home in Dallas allows the UFC to move this fight a bit once again, and putting Jones in the north east makes sense as well. The Champion resides in New York, and bringing him to the general vicinity is something they wanted to do with UFC 169 in New Jersey. And with his brother playing football for the Ravens in that city, he's already got a connection there.
