UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub picked up a huge win in his last outing, submitting Matt Mitrione with a slick D'Arce choke at UFC 165. The win was his second straight, moving him further from a two fight losing skid in 2011 and 2012.
The win was important in a number of ways, but it's impressive nature also helped to secure him a new deal with the UFC. Schaub announced his new deal on Twitter Thursday, which will see him sticking with the UFC for at least six more fights if he continues winning.
Penick's Analysis: Schaub absolutely bought himself some considerable time with that win over Mitrione. It was arguably as good as he's ever looked, and is the continuation of what he's said has been a change in his training and attributes. He's still improving in the sport, and though he's had those two vicious and decisive KO losses, he could make a climb up the ladder if he can perform consistently as he did against Mitrione.
