By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief We're less than two weeks away from Fight Night 17 on Spike TV, and the night's main event has taken a hit. Hermes Franca, who was scheduled to face Joe Lauzon in the main event of the Tampa, FL show, has torn the anterior crucial ligament (ACL) in his right knee and has had to pull out of the event. Franca announced the injury in a post on the Underground Forum.
No replacement has been named to face Lauzon yet, and it's possible that the scheduled bout between Mac Danzig and Josh Neer could be moved to the main event slot.
Penick's Analysis: Well that's a blow to a not very stacked card. It's a free event, so there's always reason to watch, but the card suffers without the set main event two weeks out of the show. And since he hasn't fought since September, it pushes Lauzon's return back even further if they can't find a replacement. Nothing can be done about injuries, though, and so we can just hope Franca can recover quickly and get back into the Octagon.
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
